Meet Dr Renita Rajan, the Dermatologist Turning Skincare Science Into a Business
Chennai-based skincare startup CHOSEN, founded by dermatologist Dr Renita Rajan, has secured fresh investment to expand its science-led beauty products.
What happens when a dermatologist decides to build skincare products instead of simply recommending them?
For Dr Renita Rajan, that idea became CHOSEN, a Chennai-based skincare startup now attracting some notable investors.
The company has secured additional funding from Avnish Chhabria and Saurabh Kapoor, founders of Wellbeing Nutrition, extending its Series A round. The latest investment amount was not disclosed.
And they're joining some big names.
CHOSEN previously raised $5 million in May 2026, backed by Fireside Ventures, L'Oréal's venture capital arm BOLD and Alkemi Growth Capital.
Founded in 2020, CHOSEN develops skincare products designed around Indian skin concerns, including pigmentation, texture and the effects of environmental exposure.
The company says its portfolio now includes more than 50 products, with over 2,000 doctors recommending or prescribing them.
With fresh backing, CHOSEN plans to strengthen research, develop new formulations and establish a Centre of Excellence involving dermatologists in product development.
For a market crowded with beauty influencers and celebrity-backed brands, CHOSEN is taking a different route: building its identity around dermatological research.
From treating patients to building a growing skincare business, Dr Renita Rajan's journey shows how professional expertise can become the foundation of a startup.
